A realistic early-stage power grid verification algorithm based on hierarchical constraints

Power grid verification has become an indispensable step to guarantee a functional and robust chip design. Vectorless power grid verification methods, by solving linear programming (LP) problems under current constraints, enable worst-case voltage drop predictions at an early stage of design when the specific waveforms of current drains are unknown. In this paper, a novel power grid verification algorithm based on hierarchical constraints is proposed. By introducing novel power constraints, the proposed algorithm generates more realistic current patterns and provides less pessimistic voltage drop predictions. The model order reduction-based coefficient computation algorithm reduces the complexity of formulating the LP problems from being proportional to steps to being independent of steps. Utilizing the special hierarchical constraint structure, the submodular polyhedron greedy algorithm dramatically reduces the complexity of solving the LP problems from over O(k 3 m) to roughly O(k k m), where k m is the number of variables. Numerical results have shown that the proposed algorithm provides less pessimistic voltage drop prediction while at the same time achieves dramatic speedup. © 2011 IEEE.published_or_final_versio

Fabric defect detection by fourier analysis

Many fabric defects are very small and undistinguishable, which makes them very difficult to detect by only monitoring the intensity change. Faultless fabric is a repetitive and regular global texture and Fourier transform can be applied to monitor the spatial frequency spectrum of a fabric. When a defect occurs in fabric, its regular structure is changed so that the corresponding intensity at some specific positions of the frequency spectrum would change. However, the three-dimensional frequency spectrum is very difficult to analyze. In this paper, a simulated fabric model is used to understand the relationship between the fabric structure in the image space and in the frequency space. Based on the three-dimensional frequency spectrum, two significant spectral diagrams are defined and used for analyzing the fabric defect. These two diagrams are called the central spatial frequency spectrums. The defects are broadly classified into four classes: 1) double yarn; 2) missing yarn; 3) webs or broken fabric; and 4) yarn densities variation. After evaluating these four classes of defects using some simulated models and real samples, seven characteristic parameters for a central spatial frequency spectrum are extracted for defect classification

    Transdermal drug delivery models

In this paper, a preliminary study based on the different models of the skin impedance is carried out. The purpose is to examine the drug delivery method through iontophoresis, which relies on active trans-portation of the charged medication agent within an electric field. It is a kind of transdermal drug delivery method, and hence the method has to handle the variability in skin characteristics of a patient. This paper carries out a simulation study based on three different skin impedance models

Defect detection in textured materials using gabor filters

Abstract—This paper investigates various approaches for automated inspection of textured materials using Gabor wavelet features. A new supervised defect detection approach to detect a class of defects in textile webs is proposed. Unsupervised web inspection using multichannel filtering scheme is investigated. A new data fusion scheme to multiplex the information from the different channels is proposed. Various factors interacting the tradeoff for performance and computational load are discussed. This scheme establishes high computational savings over the previously proposed approaches and results in high quality of defect detection. Final acceptance of visual inspection systems depends on economical aspects as well. Therefore, a new low-cost solution for fast web inspection is also included in this paper. The experimental results conducted on real fabric defects for various approaches proposed in this paper confirm their usefulness.
